ATB Staff Concert Weekend 1 (Photo by Mark Jewett)

June is just about over and as always there were so many reasons to love this month. Aside from being my birthday month and the beginning of summer its also the month of our wedding anniversary, the Shari Kane & Dave Steele CD Release concert, the Nor-east’r Music Festival, Above the Bridge Songwriters Weekend, the beginning of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Chelsea Sounds & Sights and more. Oh… and then there’s this –

Suffice it to say that we’re coming down hard after a 30 day high and like a really great song, June’s excitement left us feeling elated and satisfied but a little sad that it ended. Unlike a song, we can only play it over again in our heads. We were already riding pretty high from our own CD release concert at the end of May! What an amazing night! So grateful to all the stellar musicians who shared the stage with us and made our songs sound so good – Ozzie Andrews, Mike Shimmin, Drew Howard and most of all Jason Dennie, without whom these songs would not be what they are! So much love in our hearts for all the folks who came to the show and made us feel so special that night.

The Noreast’r Music Festival is always one of the highlights of our June. This year was extra special for lots of reasons. Ozzie was with us and we got to play the main stage Saturday night! Craig Carrick and all the organizers try to bring something new each year and this year it was the “Folk School” in-the-round, up-close and personal, unplugged sets in the little white school house. LOVED that! Another amazing line-up that we were honored to be a part of.  I have so much more to say about everything but want to focus right now on the Above The Bridge Songwriters Weekends! TWO this year. It’s a weekend long gathering of songwriters at all levels, guided by a staff of 4 – 5 experienced songwriters through workshops, critiques and one-on-one sessions. It was started 8 years ago by the duo The Hummingbirds ( along with Kelly Chamberlin of Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn up in Curtis, Michigan. In recent years it has been run by the extremely talented John “Jonesy” Latini ( with lots of help from Jamie-Sue Seal ( We have been honored to be on staff for 5 of the 8 years and through that experience have come to know some of the finest, most talented songwriters and musicians we now call good friends. You can check out all the love still oozing out from the memories and photos posted by everyone. Its over too quickly!
