Much as I LOVE this time of year for its promise of a fresh start and the hopefulness of accomplishing some of those things on my ever growing list, I also find it hard to fight the feelings of regret about all the things I DIDN’T accomplish last year. No matter… I give it a few minutes and then move on. 2015 was wonderful in so many ways with lots to be grateful for. Perhaps the biggest accomplishment was releasing our 8th CD “Searching for Neverland”. We’ve been really happy with the response – most notably this review in No Depression – and it feels great to get those songs imprinted in their current form. We’ve also been writing a TON and promise it won’t be quite so long before the next CD. Anyway, on with the recap. For the past 10 years we’ve been kicking off the new year with our annual Yellow Room Gang concert at The Ark. Last year we celebrated 1o years by releasing the 4th gang CD aptly titled “Decade” and it features this great song from Jim Bizer!
Rod and I spent much of the previous two years down-sizing from our home in Chelsea, to a small townhouse back in Ann Arbor only to find ourselves a year later back in Chelsea, where we are now happily planted for the foreseeable future. We’ve juggled day jobs, house renovations, recording a CD and about 40 shows. We stayed pretty close to home playing some of our favorite places all over the state of Michigan (one of those was our big “Searching for Neverland” CD release concert at The Ark in Ann Arbor! What a great night that was!) but still got to travel a bit for concerts in Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Canada. We kicked off festival season with a big main stage set at our dear Noreast’r Festival, followed by Chelsea Sounds & Sights, Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Harsen’s Island Festival, Holler Fest and Thumbfest. Our non-gigging but still music-related travels took us to banjo camp in Virginia, Southeast Regional Folk Alliance conference in Asheville, NC and the Midwest Folk Alliance conference in Iowa. Our On The Tracks Songwriter Showcase concert series finished its 3rd season and began its 4th in 2015 with hugely successful shows, bringing new audiences to the depot each month. We’re thrilled with the caliber of artists who want to come play for us.
Okay, this is starting to sound like one of those holiday letters that people send out with Christmas cards …
OH yeah, and we got a cat!!
